Serra da Piedade

With one of the most beautiful views in the entire region, Serra da Piedade is home to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Piety, composed of the Shelter Church, a panoramic restaurant, the Cross, the Pilgrims' House, and the Chapel of Our Lady of Piety. Originally built of adobe, its structure has been partially preserved due to the various renovations it underwent over the years. Inside the simple chapel, the altarpiece of the main altar, in Rococo style, and the image of Our Lady of Piety holding her dead son in her arms stand out. The work is attributed to Master Antônio Francisco Lisboa, known as Aleijadinho. Both the Serra and the Sanctuary are registered as heritage sites by IPHAN.
