- Curiosity: The word Caraça comes from the shape of part of the mountain range, which resembles the image of a giant's face lying down. Caraça is the name of a section of the Espinhaço Mountain Range located in the municipalities of Catas Altas and Santa Bárbara, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, where a school once operated that was attended by notable figures in Brazilian history, including Presidents Arthur Bernardes and Affonso Pena.
Today, Caraça is a Private Natural Heritage Reserve (RPPN), covering an area of 11,233 hectares, also known as the Caraça Sanctuary. The mountain range is made up of peaks and hills such as Trindade, Conceição, Olaria, Canjerana, Carapuça, Inficionado, and do Sol, the latter being the highest point, reaching an altitude of 2,072 meters. The waters flowing down the mountains form beautiful cascades and waterfalls, such as Cascatinha, Cascatona, Bocaína, and Belchior, with their intensely ferruginous waters. Caraça also has two lakes: Tanque Grande and Tanque São Luís.
