Pequeri is located in the Zona da Mata, in the micro-region of Juiz de Fora. The municipality was founded between 1860 and 1870 by a former combatant of the Paraguayan War and formed by Italian, Syrian-Lebanese, German immigrants and some descendants of slaves and Portuguese. It has feldspar, quartz and limestone deposits, which made it possible to implement mineral extraction industries.
