To the west of Minas Gerais, in the region of Campos das Vertentes, Passa Tempo is an extraordinary place for rest of the body and soul. The city has delightful ecological trails and beautiful waterfalls that provide pleasant moments. It preserves baroque buildings such as the Main Church of Our Lady of Glory, centennial farms, old mansions, remnants of indigenous tribes that once occupied the region, and some hills that offer a fantastic panoramic view.
Known for the ufological research conducted by Antônio Faleiro (nicknamed Niginho), one of the pioneers of ufology in Brazil, the city has an observatory dedicated to the subject.
The production of arraiolo carpets, a peculiar tradition, has contributed to elevate the municipality to a prominent cultural level in Minas Gerais and throughout Brazil. The art has influences from Persian culture, with floral and geometric designs, and also traces of popular tradition. The strong colors are also characteristics of the arraiolo. Passa Tempo learned the method 36 years ago through the hands of Portuguese immigrants, and in 2003, ATAPT (Association of Tapestries and Handicrafts of Passa Tempo) was founded, which currently brings together 14 tapestry makers.
