Milho Verde

  • Curiosity:
  • Population: 1.614

Founded in 1713 by the Portuguese Manoel Rodrigues de Milho Verde, after whom it is named, it was the gateway to diamond exploration, as the largest diamond of the Portuguese crown, weighing 1,680 carats, was discovered here in 1741.

Located on the slopes of the Serra do Espinhaço, one of the most beautiful postcards of the state, it is approximately 312 km from Belo Horizonte. Between Serro and Diamantina, the district is part of cultural, historical, and ecological tourist routes. The area’s main highlights include the beautiful and delightful waterfalls nestled among its mountains and valleys.

The colonial Church of Nossa Senhora dos Prazeres, with its imposing beauty, was baptized as Chica da Silva in 1734, and of course, the famous Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Rosário, built of wood and clay, which was featured on Milton Nascimento's album 'Caçador de Mim', is one of its main attractions.

With countless inns, natural attractions, and a diverse cuisine, it is the perfect itinerary for a perfect weekend!
