Considered the highest city in southern Minas Gerais, at 1,132 meters above sea level, Alagoa is located in the Environmental Protection Area (APA) of the beautiful mountains of Serra da Mantiqueira, and part of its territory is integrated into the Serra do Papagaio State Park.

The municipality has various natural attractions. Its surroundings are characterized by lush greenery, mountains, and fresh air. Among the main attractions are waterfalls and rapids. Even though the region's mild climate may not be enticing for swimming in cold waters, enjoying the various currents and waterfalls, and, best of all, listening to the gentle flow of clear waters is magical.

The high peaks with magnificent views of the entire area are also strong points for tourists to explore. In addition to being recognized by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve, Alagoa is famous for the delicious handmade parmesan cheese produced by the rural population.

Favored by the climate and topography of the region, the city received the proud title of "Cheese Capital," producing the famous Alagoa Artisanal Cheese.
